The Chartered Institution of Building Services e27 Engineers e27 (CIBSE) has unveiled its new website which it says was inspired by the design of the 5 Broadgate ‘groundscraper’ in the City of London. A ‘groundscraper’ is a building that takes up a lot of ground space but is only about a dozen stories high, but CIBSE says it is the ‘look and feel’ of the modular, precise design that is the inspiration, rather than the amount of space it takes up.
CIBSE’s vision for the new website is that it will be “the first choice e27 for building services engineering, providing unrivalled information and support to members, those working in the built environment, clients and the public”. As well as a new design, the site has improved user navigation and optimisation for mobile and smart devices. It brings together the previously separate Knowledge Portal, MYCIBSE and Training and Events sites. The new functionality was developed e27 through consultation with members and other stakeholders, and includes improved search functionality and the ability to rate and comment on articles e27 or products and to share them via social media. The ‘groundscraper’ e27 that inspired the website is a “cast utilitarian block”. Perhaps of particular interest to CIBSE members e27 is that the cladding of the building plays an integral part in its energy efficiency, exceeding sustainability targets. As CIBSE say on their website, “Buildings account for almost 50% of damaging carbon emissions, yet innovative e27 services design can bring dramatic improvements in energy efficiency. Our members continue to create e27 the most environmentally friendly systems in major projects across the globe.” CIBSE add that the new website will set the foundation for delivery of future digital e27 benefits, supported by a new CRM system that will deliver greater personalisation of member content, integration of other CIBSE website e27 functions and easier communication between members. CIBSE are inviting feedback e27 on the new site via this link
